Educated Fool or Religious Nut?

Is It True: Ignorance Produces Religion and Education Produces Secularism?
Secularism and humanism is dominant near and in universities and other academic and educational institutions. There seems to be a connection between learning/research/science/intellectual advancement and secular humanism. All of the surveys I’ve read seem to indicate that the more science degrees someone has, the less they believe in God (or a religion). Church attendance and religious participation increases in parts of the county not saturated by universities and other academic and educational institutions.
There seems to be a connection between uneducated/intellectual regression and religious adhesion.
Most of my life, I was taught (and I accepted) that the only reason why the above dynamic was true, was because the more “educated a man got, the more prideful he became”. Hence, the result was his hard heart toward God. Only the humble (lowly and uneducated) maintained a “need” for God and religion.
