 Welcome
to unanchored, a new website
devoted to CNN's unconventional
anchorman, Anderson Cooper.
Why 'unanchored'? We admit, we
shamelessly stole the name from the New York Magazine
article of the same name, published in Sept '05. But beyond that,
has there ever been a less
'typical' news anchor than Anderson Cooper?
Raised in privilege, he travels to some of the most underprivileged
places on earth to bring back their stories. A primetime anchor before
the age of forty, the youthful Cooper has a vociferous fan following.
But avuncular gravitas, as we are
perhaps inclined to expect from those who sit in the anchor's chair?
 Well,
not so much. No one who has seen Cooper perform the Mentos
and
Diet Coke experiment (see our Downloads
page) on live television,
or appear on The Colbert Report
eating ice cream,
or stumble over the teleprompter's 'Give the Shot a shot' is ever
going to confuse him with Walter Cronkite. And good thing too -
there can be only one Uncle
Walter, and only one Anderson Cooper.
